Play is Brain Work
The philosophy of 'Learn through play' has been heard many times. I like to think of it as Play is brain work. When we play we stimulate mind growth in ways that we can not achieve through other activities. It's not 'just playing' it is 'hooray for play!'
Responsive Planning
All play starts with a little bit of planning. What materials do we need? Where will we play? What are the safety rules? What is important in our planning is to be responsive and be flexible enough to allow the natural progression of play to happen. It is in this child-led play that the most development happens. I never say, "We are just playing." as play is the most important thing we can do to grow our brains. We are "Happily playing!"
