My favourite kid friendly paint recipes

Painting with kids is fun. It can be messy but that just ads to the enjoyment. You likely have read many paint recipes to make for kids. These are two of my favourite. I repeated these activities over and over with many kids during my child care career. You're sure to love them!

When you make your own paint you can be sure it is safe for kids to touch and feel.

Juice Finger-Paint

2 cups flour

2 pkgs. juice crystals (e.g.. Kool-aid or Crystal Light)

1/2 cup salt

3 cups boiling water

3 TBSP. cooking oil

* Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Add in wet ingredients. Do this with the kids! They Love to watch the color change. Add more flour to mixture if it is too runny. Wash up with water and soap.

Body Paint

1/8 cup baby lotion

1/4 tsp. powdered termer paint

1 squirt dish soap ( clear works best)

* Add all ingredients. Mix well and apply to body. This paint washes off easily.

A note about safety:

You must always do your own due diligence when playing with kids to keep them safe. Check with parents about allergies, sensitivities and preferences. Check that all ingredients, in any recipe, especially for paint touching the body are safe for your group of kids. Do not let kids eat the paint. Keep paint away from openings like eyes, ears and noses. Provide lots of wipes to tackle messes.

Have fun painting!
